Thus, when solar panels are installed to replace natural gas, an acre of solar panels saves approximately 385,000 to 436,000 pounds, or 175 to 198 metric tons, of carbon dioxide per year.

How much CO2 does a solar energy project EMIT?

The emission factor of the conventional energy source (natural gas) used in the area is 0.5 kg CO2 per kWh. Energy generated by the solar project = 100,000 kWh. Emission factor of natural gas = 0.5 kg CO2/kWh. So, in this example, the solar energy project has offset 50,000 kg of CO2 emissions.
