What is battery energy density?

Battery energy density measures the amount of energy stored per unit of mass or volume (Wh/kg or Wh/L). Higher energy density enables longer runtimes, lighter weight, and more compact designs—fueling advancements in electric vehicles, portable electronics, and grid storage.

What is a high energy density battery?

Higher energy density means you can store more energy with less weight, which is critical for portable electronics, robotics, and electric vehicles. For example, LTO batteries have an energy density of 50-80 Wh/kg, resulting in heavier batteries for the same energy content.

Can liquid metal batteries achieve a high energy density?
