When should a battery pack be balanced?

Assuming the battery pack will be balanced the first time it is charged and in use. Also, assuming the cells are assembled in series. If the cells are very different in State of Charge (SoC) when assembled the Battery Management System (BMS) will have to gross balance the cells on the first charge.

Why do batteries overcharge?

However, due to the battery manufacturing process, the use of the environment and battery temperature changes, and other factors in the long-term use of battery packs, the phenomenon of inconsistency in the energy of the individual cell gradually aggravated, resulting in individual cell “over-charge” or “over-discharge” situation.

How efficient is battery equalization?

The equalization results indicate that the cells with severe imbalance are prioritized for action, and the battery pack reaches a balanced state at 3,926 s. By statistically comparing the energy of individual battery cells before and after equalization, an overall equalization efficiency of 86.2% is achieved.
